Born in Nakatsu, playwright Kaoru Morimoto (1912 – 1946) wrote the renowned drama A Woman’s Life, starring the famous Showa era actress Haruko Sugimura. This line engraved on the monument represents the will to live on one’s own terms rather than taking a path chosen by others.
