Kanenaru Akatsuki was an ukiyo-e artist and fiction writer active during the waning years of the Tokugawa shogunate. Buried at Shorakuji Temple, even non-history buffs will have heard of his Edo period travel guide Settsu Meisho Zue Taisei (Famous Landmarks of Settsu). His works delicately describe late Edo period Osaka, but also offer plenty of humor.

A stone monument stands in front of Shorakuji Temple on the south side of Oyodo Elementary School.
