Site of the Umeda Graveyard
2 Ofukacho , Kita-ku, Osaka

Umeda Graveyard, which is one of the famous seven Osaka cemeteries, was built during the Edo and Meiji periods, and relocated here between 1684 and 1688. A tour of the seven graveyards was popular during the Edo period and was even part of a dating scene where suitors would prove their courage. The remains of nearly 1,500 people and about 350 funerary urns buried here were uncovered in the southwest corner of the Umekita Phase 2 area during late December of 2019. A survey currently underway is expected to reveal details about the lives and history of Osakans that are not a part of the history books.
