This stone monument blends into the scenery between two fashion buildings. The area got its start when teahouses were built along the Old Nosé Highway (Ikeda Highway) during the Edo period, with people calling it “Chayamachi” after the three restaurants Tsuruno Chaya, Hagino Chaya, and Kurumano Chaya were built during the mid-Meiji period. Long ago, this area was famous for its plums and rape blossoms, drawing many people who enjoyed flower-viewing.
