A monument commemorating a dignitary who served the king of Baekje

Monument to Lord Nichira
2-2-33 Temmabashi (In Kema Sakuranomiya Park) , Kita-ku, Osaka

Nichira was a sixth century figure who appears in The Chronicles of Japan. He was dispatched from the Yamato court to the Korean Peninsula to open friendly relations with the king of Baekje but was eventually assassinated by someone from Baekje on suspicion of being a double agent. Legend has it that the emperor had Nichira buried here to commemorate his sacrifice for Japan.
