A village shrine beloved since the area was known as Yasoshima

Susanoo no Mikoto Shrine (Urae Yasaka Shrine)
3-3-25 Oyodo Minami , Kita-ku, Osaka
Always open to visitors

This Urae (part of current-day Sagisu, Fukushima-ku and Oyodo, Kita-ku) village shrine has existed since the Muromachi period. Legend has it that long ago, the spot where Nonomiya Shrine was once located was the residence of the imperial princess serving at Ise Shrine. Wani Shrine, which is also a subordinate shrine of Susanoo no Mikoto Shrine, venerates Wani as the god of academia. In ancient times, Wani was invited to Urae from Baekje, and served as the teacher of Emperor Nintoku. The mound said to be the grave of Wani, located in the village of Daini in Nishinari-gun, which was in this area, was relocated to this spot in 1912.
